personal evaluation

Over the past few days, I have been personally evaluating some things in my life. Trying to continually grow as an individual and not get stuck in a rut.

Pray for God's wisdom in my life.

Starting a church advice:

  1. Have a deep appreciation of your burden

-Have a deep appreciation for the way you spend money
  2. Have a clear vision
-How are you going to measure success?
-When people give big, you have to say "thank you" big.
-Never leave money on the table. Double or triple it.
  3. Recruit a team you want to work for
  4. Give yourself away
-When you don't know what else to do, give yourself away.

    cff highlights-day one

Last week at the Creative Funding Forum, we had the opportunity to hear about a lot of innovative ways to build capital and raise resources for funding ministry, church plants, and compassion initiatives.

Session 1-Joel Hunter, Pastor of Northwood Assembly

    • Joel and a group of investors have founded two separate LLC's to buy and lease homes and distribute their revenue into a fund to plant 125 new churches.
    • Minds produce money. The lifestyles that people enjoy are only supported by
    • their creativity and ability to create revenue streams and manage money.
    • People don't want to give a check; they want to change lives.
    • People are willing to give to your cause. Let them help you find a solution.

Session 2-Patrick Kucera, President Frontline Ministries
    • We are too busy marketing the church and not Jesus.
    • We can reach cities by reaching those involved in business.
    • Find the power centers of a city and begin to reach those connected to it.

    Session 3-Dave Mills
    • What is our mission?
    • And what mission related strategies can we create to raise resources?
    • Grants are only given because of a service-first strategy.
    • Service comes first, money follows.
    • People sometimes need a different bucket to put money in.
    • When you serve, don't just serve. Serve specific community needs.
    • Service has to be in the vocabulary of a church planter to continually holistically meet needs.

    staff at the lake

Over the weekend, The Crossing staff had a little fun. We got together for great food, team building, and a lot of laughs at Zach's house on Friday night.

Has anyone ever tried to put a helium stick on the ground with 8 people? Let's just say it took us 45 minutes. Geez, why do the laws of nature defy common sense? It seems so easy, even when you know the reason why it won't work... it's just figuring out how to work together to get it from waist high on the ground with everyone still touching it.

After a sleepless night and a home alarm going off loud and clear at 7a the entire house was up. It was then time for my first trek to the lake. I've never been tubing, skiing, or boating. But 5 hrs. can go by like 15 minutes when you're having that much fun. The highlight has to be Zach holding onto the tube for multiple mid-air's in a row only to bust it a few seconds later.

It was so much fun just to get away and spend time growing together and having a blast doing it.

    cone head

Lacey's dog, or I guess I should say "our dog," Scout had a little operation yesterday. Let's just say as a male dog, he is thoroughly depressed and ashamed.

It's kinda sad, but the pictures sure are funny.

As a result, he's gotta wear a cone for the next week. Talk about doubling the humiliation.

    creative funding forum

Zach, Tommy, and I are getting ready to head out to the Creative Funding Forum in Dallas tomorrow. Really excited about the opportunity learn at the Forum as well as connect with other church planters and leaders.

    It's being hosted by the
Church Multiplication Network, the North Texas District, and Northwood Assembly as a 24 hour fly-in to learn about creative ways to grow and build resources as a local church.

Looking forward to hearing and possibly meeting
Scott Bruegman and Dave Mills, two of the presenters. They are doing great stuff as far as community development and compassion ministries.

Also, I'll get to see a couple friends who I haven't seen in a few months,
    Ricky and Dave.

    big needs... big answers

God answered some huge prayer needs today for The Crossing. So thankful to serve a God who knows exactly what we need and when we need it. Thankful for the relationships and connections He gives us to help build His kingdom.

All I can say is that it was so huge for us Zach and Tommy were about to do a Holy Ghost dance in the parking lot.

More details will come in the next few weeks.

    routine, come back to me

No internet has equaled no blogging.
Thankful for the Starbucks right by our apartment.

Life certainly has not held a routine since Lacey and I moved to Frisco. Errands, setting up our apartment, grocery shopping, and things to buy have ruled our lives. We finally have our Directv setup and a washer and dryer paid for. We'll pick it up tonight and knock out our pile of clothes needing to be washed.

The thing that has been hard for me is the lack of any routine. I thrive on routines and need the structure in my life. Otherwise, I get frustrated and feel unproductive, especially when I have a huge task list.

With most of the "little" move stuff taken care of, I can finally get back to work and get stuff done. I also got a great job yesterday working with CM IT Solutions. The nice thing is the part-time work. That's going to be huge for me.

A routine will be here soon, but for now the craziness continues with lots of things to take care of.

    move day

Uhaul packed up and ready to roll out of Owasso on the way to Frisco. A normal 4 hr. drive probably becomes a 5 hr. drive with the Uhaul pulling my car, but it will be over quick. The iPod is ready and I got some phone calls to make on the road. It won't be bad.

So ready to get everything unpacked and get settled in.

Pray for us to have no more issues with anything. I also have an interview on Thursday. Everything is finally coming together.
